Foster Care Program

Thank you for your interest in the Foster Care Program. We appreciate your willingness to open your heart and home to homeless animals. Your dedication allows our organization to rescue animals that we would otherwise have to turn away due to lack of space in our existing foster homes or shelter.

The overall mission of the Foster Care Program is to give animals individualized care and socialization to ensure that they will be easy to place in new homes and will be adopted by families that can best meet their needs. It also allows us to care appropriately for animals needing intensive care or special, no-stress conditions.

Primarily, our foster homes provide space and care for pregnant cats and dogs, mothers with litters, and orphaned litters requiring bottle feeding and continuous care. The shelter is a stressful place for these animals, and they're much better off being cared for in a home environment.

In some cases, we have animals that need intensive care and attention, and would prefer to place them in foster homes. These pets include those needing socialization to prepare them for adoption and occasionally ill or injured animals who can receive more intensive care and will recover more quickly in a home than in the shelter environment. Unfortunately we don't have foster home space available for this. We're hoping to expand the number of available homes so we can meet those needs.

In all cases the shelter provides all necessary equipment and supplies for fostering, including blankets, food, litter for cats, bottles, and formula, as well as any necessary medications. The CHS foster home provides love, attention and care.
